The Best Live Slam Courtesy of Youtube

Unfortunately it is pretty rare for most people to see slam and brutal death metal live. Most of the bands aren't able to tour extensively and unless you live in a big city you're pretty much out of luck. The brutal death scene is very active and alive right now, and thanks to the internet we can hear and buy studio releases from all around the world. However nothing beats the energy and intensity of live music. Thanks to the magic of youtube though, we can get pretty close. I've picked out a couple videos that I think slams fans will enjoy.

Soils of Fate - Versus ft. Ruben Rosas of Devourment. Recorded at the first Maryland Deathfest in 2003.

Devourment - Choking on Bile ft. Wayne Knupp (RIP)

Human Mastication - Groteque Mastication of Putrid Innards

Katelepsy - Number of Death (13)

I'm hoping that you kids realize soon that brutal death and slam are not even close to the same thing. In fact, most of the stuff you post about is brutal death, not slam. Hint: tremolo picking = not slam.

I have to disagree with you completely Sergeant D. In my opinion slam death is a style of brutal death metal. Some bands lean more towards slam and some more towards being technical. Some are in the middle. Either way this blog is about brutal death metal which includes slam.

I can understand differentiated slam from brutal death, but to say they "are not even close to the same thing" is ridiculous.

Yeah. We really love slam and feel very connected to it, but I don't feel the need to be so elitist about it. We aren't going to cover stuff so far away as goregrind (for the most part) or regular old death metal, and if we do that will actually be a problem. Arguing about genres and nitpicking is just lame though. So is being condescending ;)

Also as a caveat and for something you might want to be aware of, though the blog is called Slam-Minded, the Mission Statement clearly indicates "(new releases, reviews by us, and other slam/brutal death related propaganda)." Though, I hope you enjoyed attempting to troll us. Good try.
