Abominable Putridity announce rather ridiculous new (vocal) lineup

So, apparently Abominable Putridity, everyone's favorite Russian slammers, were either trolling the slam scene or were just confused and seeking direction when they announced that Cameron "Big Chocolate" Argon would be the new vocalist for the band some time last year. This disappointed more people than I can even count at this time, and the rumors kept being confirmed with various pictorial evidence posted by the band themselves on last.fm and the official forums. It seemed likely that, indeed, a *gasp* deathcore vocalist masquerading as a "slam/brutal death metal" vocalist by doing boring, one-dimensional exhales, usually unhelpfully backed by a completely equally boring, equally one-dimensional group of other instrument-players, would become the vocalist of the spearheads of Russia's hallowed slam scene. As you can tell, this would rightfully anger quite a few people.

BUT, there has been good news announced quite recently. Here's a quote posted by Sergey of AP on their official forums.

"We are going to make 2 song promos when we will have it professionally mixed and mastered in USA...So be patient... i promise that all you guys will like this album, we spend about half of year to record it and make songs powerfull and tight as hell, and this material is waaaayy different from the first one, as for vocals Matti leads on all tracks, other guys making back vocals on 4 tracks (2 songs with Corey, 1 with Aj and 1 with Angel), album will have 8 tracks total..."

Goregiastic Records Acquired by Sevared Records

Goregiastic Records, a small but quality label has been bought by Sevared Records. It's fun to imagine this as two major record labels merging, but it sounds more like Goregiastic's inventory is going to over Sevared. They're both one man operations and it seems like Andres, the owner of Goregiastic, no longer wishes to run a label. I'm just going by what it says online but ff that's the case then I'm glad things have moved to Sevared. Barrett has always been dedicated and professional. Goregiastic released some good stuff (Infernal Revulsion - Devastate Under Hallucination comes to mind) and will be missed, but if you're going to leave the scene, this is the way to do it. Abominable Putridity

A little while ago there was a rumor floating around that Abominable Putridity had replaced their vocalist Vladimir with "Big Chocolate" of Malodorous and Disfiguring the Goddess fame. I was skeptical at the time but thanks to some anonymous commenters I have learned that this vocalist switch is in fact a reality. It is up on Abominable Putridity's myspace and the switch has been featured on flyers. Can't say I'm all that pleased as I was a big fan of Vladimir's vocals, but I'll keep an open mind about Big Chocolate's future contributions. Abominable Putridity are near the top of today's slam scene and I hope they continue to remain there.

AP Gets a New Vocalist and a Dripping Reunion?

There's been a few rumors floating around the slam world of late. One of them is that Abominable Putridity, probably the most popular new slam band to come out in the last few years, has replaced their vocalist Vladimir with "Big Chocolate" of Malodorous. When I heard this I was very concerned because in my opinion Vladimir has really good vocals, especially on In the End of Human Existence, Abominable Putridity's debut album. I'm not really familiar with Malodorous and to be honest I've never understood why people get so excited over them. Big Chocolate's vocals aren't that great either. I did some investigation into this and I found no mention of the change on either AP's or Malodorous' myspaces. In fact the only place I have seen mention of this is on Metal Archives and AP's shoutbox on last.fm. It also seems strange that a band in Moscow would choose a vocalist living in the USA. I don't want to definitively say this is false but it doesn't seem likely to me. If anything else develops I'll post about it here.

On a happier note one of my favorite bands, Dripping, has reformed, at least for one show. According to Dripping myspace, they are getting together to play at the New Jersey Deathfest, which is happening in October of this year. The line up looks really good and besides Dripping will include Inhuman Dissiliency, Digested Flesh, and Dysentery among others. Unfortunately I'll be in Toronto in October so I'll miss this but I urge any fans in the New Jersey area to see this. Dripping are one of the most unique and awesome bands ever to play brutal death metal so this is an opportunity you don't want to miss. I just hope this one time reunion leads to something more.

Ben Marlin of Disgorge Dead. RIP

I am very sad to say that Ben Marlin, bass player of the US Disgorge, has died today after a battle with cancer. Here's the official statement from the band:

We are regretful to say that after nearly a year and a half of battling cancer, our brother and bass player, Ben Marlin has passed away just about the stroke of 5am this January 2nd 2008. We are going to miss him so much and may he live on in all our hearts forever. Ben, Thank you for all your years of friendship and brutality..........

Rest In Peace Wayne Knupp: '76-'07

One of the originators of modern brutal vocals, Wayne Knupp has passed away Saturday September 16th 2007 from multiple organ failure tied to continuing alcohol abuse.

Both of us at SLAM-MINDED extend consolation to Wayne's family, friends, and other fans like us. There will be no other like him. May we continue to hoist the flag of brutality in his name!
